Over the past ten years, One Small House has built more than thirty homes. Below, you’ll find information and photos from a few of our more recent ones. A special thanks to each hard-working team of volunteers that built these homes.
Ten Families, Ten Homes – December 2011
During the last week of 2011, a team of twenty five volunteers completed the construction of ten homes for ten needy families! This build was monumental for One Small House and was made possible by the generous support of Roger Waters.
Clarksdale Build – September 2011
Fifteen volunteers organized by One Small House traveled to Clarksdale, Mississippi to help the local Habitat for Humanity build a simple, decent home for Shirley Shields. Our dedicated volunteers came from the East Coast and California and installed vinyl siding, electrical wiring and fiberglass insulation and then built a storage shed, keeping the project right on schedule.
Playground Build – August 2011
During the first week of August, 2011, a team of twelve volunteers worked to construct a new playground for the Casa de Salud community center. As this center has become a hub for families in Lazaro Cardenas, there was no safe place for the numerous children to play. As a result, One Small House, along with a generous donation from Rolling Hills Covenant Church, provided a new area where these kids can safely play outside.
Montana Family Build – August 2011
While the clinic was receiving a new playground, the Montana family was being built a brand new home. Led by a team of mostly women, this crew built the new home at record speeds. And thanks to their hard-work, the Montana family and their two young children have a safe, brand new place to call home.
Saucedo Family Build – July 2011
This was a special project for One Small House. The Saucedo’s youngest son is developmentally challenged and must get around in a wheelchair. Sadly, the streets of Mexico are not so friendly and their old home sat atop a large hill. Through hundreds of donations, we were able to provide Salvador with a new, wheelchair friendly home, a ramp up to the house and a special tri-cycle that will help him get around a little easier. Thank you to everyone who helped us with this challenging project.
Martinez Family Build – March 2011
During this build, our team of volunteers built a new home for the Martinez family, which consists of three young children. With help from the family, the new home was built in three and a half days. With the extra time, volunteers worked at the local Casa de Salud helping the staff screen patients. It marked the first trip where a home was built and work was continued at the Casa de Salud.
By far the largest project taken on by One Small House, this build involved over one thousand people. From donors, to builders, to volunteers, the Casa de Salud is a standing example of how big of a difference a few small changes can make.
